Northern Governors Unite Against Insecurity, Meet with Chief of Defence Staff

In a bold move to tackle the escalating insecurity in Northern Nigeria, the 19 Northern States Governors' Forum convened an emergency meeting with the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and traditional rulers from the region.

Held at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House in Kaduna on Monday, the strategic meeting aimed to address pressing issues affecting Northern Nigeria, including insecurity, poverty, and the alarming number of out-of-school children.

Led by Chairman Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State and hosted by Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna, the meeting brought together governors from eight states, deputy governors from others, and prominent traditional leaders. Notable attendees included the Sultan of Sokoto, Abubakar Saad; Shehu of Borno, Umar El-Kanemi; Emir of Zazzau, Nuhu Bamali; and the Ohinoyi of Ebira land.

General Musa briefed the gathering on the military's ongoing efforts to combat banditry, terrorism, and other security threats in the region. The traditional rulers offered valuable insights into the socio-cultural dimensions of these challenges, emphasizing community leadership's crucial role in promoting peace and stability.

Governors Yahaya and Sani stressed the urgent need for collective action to mitigate insecurity's devastating impact on the region's economic vitality.

This high-level meeting underscores the Northern Governors' commitment to collaborative problem-solving and their determination to restore peace and prosperity to the region.
