Rivers State Local Election Sees Landslide Victory for Action People's Party

Port Harcourt, Rivers State - In a stunning display of political force, the Action People's Party (APP) has secured a decisive win in the Rivers State local government election, claiming 22 out of 23 chairmanship positions. Justice Adolphus Enebeli, Chief Election Officer of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), announced the results on Saturday.

The APP's resounding success is seen as a significant blow to the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC), which have been embroiled in internal power struggles. The APP is widely backed by Governor Sim Fubara, who has been at odds with his predecessor, Barr. Nyeso Wike.

Wike, now the Minister for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), allegedly attempted to halt the election process through court orders and collusion with the Inspector General of Police. These efforts were ultimately unsuccessful.

Violence marred the election in some areas, including Barr. Nyeso Wike's political ward, where two people lost their lives and several others were injured.

In a related development, the factional secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was bombed earlier today by unknown attackers. The incident has sparked concerns about escalating political tensions in the state.

The outcome for Etche Local Government Area remains pending due to ongoing result collation. Final results for Etche LGA and 319 councillorship seats will be announced later.

Governor Sim Fubara congratulated the APP on its victory, stating, "This election demonstrates the people's desire for change and their rejection of imposition." He assured Rivers State residents of his commitment to democratic principles and peaceful governance.

The APP's victory is seen as a significant shift in Rivers State's political landscape, with implications for future elections.
