Prince Kingsley Chukwuebuka Uwanuakwa, a prominent business mogul and chieftain of Ideato descent, has publicly criticized Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, the Member of the House of Representatives for Ideato North and South Federal Constituency of Imo State. Uwanuakwa accused Ugochinyere of neglecting his constituency's needs and instead focusing on the crisis in Rivers State.
The Ideato Constituency faces severe challenges, including a lack of potable water and electricity. The area is also plagued by insecurity, with high levels of kidnapping, robbery, and killing. Uwanuakwa emphasized that Ugochinyere has numerous uncompleted projects in the constituency, urging him to prioritize his constituents' needs .
"The people of Ideato Constituency are suffering, and it's time for their representative to take action," Uwanuakwa stated. "He has a lot of work to do in Ideato and has not done even a quarter of it. Our constituency is a wonderful rural area that yearns for attention, but the only attention we get is insecurity at its highest level."
Uwanuakwa questioned Ugochinyere's representation, asking if he was elected to address problems in another state rather than his own constituency. "Why don't you use that energy to talk to the Minister of Works, talk to the heads of security in the country, and ask them to come to the aid of your constituents?" Uwanuakwa asked.
Despite Ugochinyere's achievements in his first year in office, including sponsoring 18 bills and 7 motions, stakeholders in Ideato North and South have called for his recall due to his perceived failure to effectively represent the constituency. Ugochinyere has also been instrumental in advocating for the release of professors and refugees abducted from Nigeria and imprisoned in Cameroon, as well as addressing issues of police brutality and human rights abuses .
Recently, Governor Hope Uzodinma has been commended for his road projects in Ideato North and South, including the 22-kilometer Orlu-Mgbee-Akokwa-Uga road, which has improved connectivity between the two local government areas.
Uwanuakwa urged Ugochinyere to redirect his energy toward addressing Ideato Constituency's pressing issues, ensuring the completion of ongoing projects, and advocating for necessary development. With the Christmas season approaching, Uwanuakwa emphasized the need for improved security in the area.
The people of Ideato Constituency await Ugochinyere's response to Uwanuakwa's criticism, hoping that their representative will focus on local development and address the pressing issues facing his constituency.
In a related development, there have been allegations that Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State hijacked a federal government project initiated by Ugochinyere to address erosion problems in Umuchima-Ideato ¹. This has sparked controversy and raised questions about the commitment of leaders to serving their constituents.
As the people of Ideato Constituency look forward to improved representation, it remains to be seen how Ugochinyere will respond to the criticism and address the challenges facing his constituency.
