History Beckons as Princess Ada Ogbu Emerges on INEC's 2027 Candidates List, Raising Hopes of Enugu's First Female Senator

By Glintnews Chinda

Enugu State's political landscape has taken a dramatic turn following the publication of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)'s list of candidates and credentials for the 2027 General Elections, with the emergence of Princess Ada Ogbu as the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Enugu East Senatorial District.

Her inclusion on the official list has sparked widespread political discussions across Enugu State and beyond, with supporters describing her candidacy as a defining moment that could see Enugu produce its first female senator if elected in 2027.

Princess Ada Ogbu, a renowned businesswoman, politician, and philanthropist, has over the years built a reputation as one of the most vocal advocates for responsible governance, quality legislative representation, and citizens' participation in democracy. Through numerous public engagements, interviews, and community interactions, she has consistently maintained that governance should prioritize the welfare of ordinary Nigerians rather than political interests.

She has repeatedly challenged citizens to hold elected leaders accountable, insisting that democracy can only flourish when public office holders remain answerable to the people they represent.

One of her most widely circulated political messages in recent months has been her call for voters, particularly those in Enugu State, to elect leaders based on what she describes as the "Three Cs"—Character, Competence, and Compassion. According to her, only leaders who embody these qualities can deliver sustainable development, restore public trust, and provide effective representation.

From APC Standard Bearer to NDC Flagbearer

Princess Ada Ogbu is no stranger to the political arena.

A founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), she flew the party's flag as its senatorial candidate for Enugu East in the 2023 General Election. Her latest political journey under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has once again placed her at the center of Enugu's political calculations.

Political observers believe her experience, visibility, grassroots engagement, and consistency over the years have positioned her as one of the leading contenders in the forthcoming senatorial contest.

While many analysts argue that she remains one of the most qualified candidates seeking the office, others believe the current political momentum appears to favour her, citing what they describe as the changing political pendulum and growing public demand for a new style of leadership built on competence, accountability, and inclusiveness.

"Our Time Has Come" — Ada Ogbu Declares

Shortly after confirming that her name appeared on the INEC list, Princess Ada Ogbu took to her official social media platforms to celebrate what she described as the beginning of a new political journey.

She wrote:

"Ndi Nkem, our time has come!!

Hope is no longer just a word; it is now official.

We are in the race.

And we are ready.

Enugu East, your Senator is coming.

Nigeria, your President is coming.

Ndi Nkem, Ada di OK. Enugu East will be OK. And Nigeria will be OK."

She accompanied the message with the campaign hashtags:

#AdaObi2027 #AdaEnugu #EnuguEastSenatorialZone #AdadiOK #NewNigeria #NDC

The statement immediately generated significant engagement across social media, with supporters describing it as a message of confidence, hope, and political renewal.

Nara Unateze Celebrates Its Daughter

Princess Ada Ogbu's emergence has also attracted celebration from her ancestral home of Nara Unateze in Nkanu East Local Government Area.

In a congratulatory message published on the official Nkanu Nara Unateze Facebook page alongside a video featuring the popular traditional Nkanu Igede music and the classic Old Ubo Nara song, the community paid glowing tribute to one of its most prominent daughters.

The statement described Princess Ada Ogbu as the daughter of the late Igwe Nathaniel Ogbu (Odenigbo I) and applauded her long-standing commitment to leadership, youth development, women's empowerment, and community service.

According to the statement, her political journey reflects resilience, courage, and an unwavering determination to improve the lives of the people of Enugu East Senatorial District.

The community further urged the people of Nkanu and the entire Enugu East Senatorial Zone to continue supporting leaders committed to unity, development, integrity, compassion, and selfless service.

"Nara Unateze is proud of its daughter, Adaku. Nkanu stands tall with one of its finest. May her efforts bring hope, development, and quality representation to Enugu East Senatorial Zone," the statement concluded.

"The Light Rising From the East"

Adding to the growing endorsements, the Nkanu East Good Brothers also congratulated Princess Ada Ogbu, describing her emergence as "the light rising from the East."

The group praised her courage and consistency in public service and pledged its support for her senatorial ambition.

It further appealed to stakeholders, youths, women, traditional institutions, and the entire electorate across Enugu East Senatorial District to rally behind what it described as "a candidate whose vision offers renewed hope for effective representation and inclusive development."

A Defining Moment for Enugu Politics

With the official publication of candidates for the 2027 General Elections, political activities across Enugu State are expected to intensify in the coming months.

Princess Ada Ogbu's candidacy has already become one of the major talking points in the state, not only because of her political experience but also because of the possibility of making history as the first woman to represent Enugu East Senatorial District in the Senate.

As campaigns gather momentum, political analysts believe the contest will test the strength of political structures, grassroots mobilization, and the electorate's desire for experienced and issue-driven representation.

For now, one thing appears certain: the race for Enugu East Senatorial District has entered a new phase, and Princess Ada Ogbu has positioned herself as one of the prominent figures to watch ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
