Welcome To Glint News.....
The Rivers State Government has reassured its commitment to supporting individuals affected by the devastating floods in the state, vowing not to abandon them in their time of need. This promise was made by Professor Ngozi Nma Odu, Rivers State Deputy Governor and Chairman of the Rivers State Flood Prevention and Management Committee, during the presentation of relief materials to the Internally Displaced Persons Camp in Akinima, Ahoada West Local Government Area, on Monday, October 28, 2024.
The relief materials, which include thousands of bags and gallons of food items such as indomie, garri, rice, yam, beans, and oil, aim to alleviate the suffering of the flood victims. Professor Odu emphasized that the gesture demonstrates the state government's empathy and commitment to caring for its citizens.
Three-Phase Flood Management Plan
The Flood Management Committee's operations are structured into three phases:
- _Phase One: Sensitization_ - Already completed in Ahoada East
- _Phase Two: Actual Flood Response_ - Currently underway
- _Phase Three: Post-Flood Intervention_ - To provide continued support after the floodwaters recede
Chairman of Ahoada West Local Government Area, Hon. Iyekor Ikporo, expressed gratitude to the state government for its swift response and promised that the relief materials would reach the intended beneficiaries. Stakeholders, including Dr. Patricia Wudhiga, also thanked the state government for remembering the Ahoada West community, noting that this was the first time in over eight years that the state government had come to their aid.
The Medical Officer of Health in Ahoada West, Dr. Amadi Stanley, confirmed that the community had been sensitized and the IDP camps prepared, with the state government providing essential medical supplies.
This timely intervention by the Rivers State Government demonstrates its dedication to the well-being of its citizens, particularly during times of crisis
