24-Year-Old Corps Member Declared Missing In Bayelsa
The Bayelsa State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has launched a manhunt for a missing National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member identified as Mr. Levi Anyanwu, aged 24, who was reported missing under mysterious circumstances.
According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Musa Mohammed, the young corps member, with NYSC registration number BYS/25A/0244, was serving in the state capital, Yenagoa, before his sudden disappearance. The police said Anyanwu was last seen on Friday evening, when he reportedly left his lodge at the Etegwe area of Yenagoa but never returned.
Preliminary investigations indicate that all efforts by friends, colleagues, and fellow corps members to reach him via phone calls and social media have proven abortive. His mobile lines have remained switched off since the evening he went missing.
“The Bayelsa State Police Command has commenced an intensive investigation into the disappearance of one Mr. Levi Anyanwu, a serving corps member deployed to Yenagoa. The command urges anyone with useful information about his whereabouts to contact the nearest police station or call the following emergency numbers,” the statement read in part.
Sources within the NYSC Bayelsa Secretariat confirmed that the missing corps member had reported for duty earlier that day before leaving his place of primary assignment in the evening. His colleagues described him as “quiet, disciplined, and dedicated to his service year.”
Meanwhile, the State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs. Blessing Irukera, has expressed deep concern over the incident and assured that the scheme is cooperating fully with security agencies to ensure Levi’s safe return. She also called on members of the public to assist with credible information that could help locate him.
“We are deeply worried by this development. The NYSC considers every corps member as part of our family, and we will not rest until he is found. We urge anyone who may have seen or heard from Levi to reach out to us or the police immediately,” she said.
The news of his disappearance has sparked widespread concern among corps members across the state, who have called for improved security around NYSC lodges and places of primary assignment, especially in areas with limited surveillance.
As the search intensifies, the police have urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information that could hinder investigations.
Mr. Levi Anyanwu’s family, who hails from Imo State, has also appealed to the authorities and well-meaning Nigerians for support in locating their son, whom they described as “the pride of the family.”
Anyone with information about his whereabouts is advised to contact the Bayelsa Police Command or report through the emergency line 0803 123 4567.
