Aba Residents Slam Governor Otti Over Dilapidated Roads"

Residents and business owners in Aba, Abia State, are expressing their outrage and frustration over the deplorable condition of the city's roads, particularly Obohia Road, which has been flooded and rendered impassable. The situation has become so dire that residents have resorted to crafting bamboo canoes to navigate the waterlogged streets.

A video obtained by SaharaReporters shows the residents lamenting their plight, with one individual pleading with Governor Alex Otti to take action, saying, "Our governor, please come and help us. Leave social media." The residents accuse Otti's administration of engaging in propaganda, touting false claims of road construction progress on social media while failing to address the actual problems.

The residents' frustrations are compounded by the fact that Abia State, once considered one of the most productive and technical cities in Africa, has been plagued by poor governance and inadequate infrastructure. The election of Governor Otti in 2023 brought hopes of change, but the recent flooding has exposed the substandard nature of his administration's projects, with many roads constructed under his watch being washed away by rain.

Governor Otti's background as a seasoned economist and banker had raised expectations that he would bring about meaningful development to the state. However, his administration's performance has been underwhelming, with many questioning his ability to deliver on his campaign promises.

In recent months, Otti has been focused on promoting his economic development agenda, including attending the 17th Annual Banking and Finance Conference organized by the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN). However, the residents of Aba are more concerned with the basic necessities, such as accessible roads, than with grand economic plans.

The Abia State Government has published its budget performance report for Q1 2024, highlighting its commitment to transparency and growth. Yet, the reality on the ground tells a different story, with residents struggling to make ends meet due to the lack of infrastructure.

As the situation continues to deteriorate, the people of Aba are calling on Governor Otti to take immediate action to address their concerns. They demand the immediate repair of flooded roads, an end to social media propaganda, and transparent governance. Furthermore, they expect Governor Otti to deliver on his economic development agenda, starting with basic infrastructure.

The residents emphasized that they want Governor Otti to prioritize the repair of Obohia Road and other flooded areas, rather than merely promoting his achievements on social media. They stressed that the current state of affairs is unacceptable and that urgent action is needed to prevent further suffering.
