_Breaking News: NSCDC Foils Railway Vandalism, Arrests Four Suspects in Enugu
In a daring operation, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Enugu State Command, has apprehended four individuals implicated in the illicit excavation of railway lines and slippers in Eha-Amufu, Isi-Uzo Local Government Area. This bold move underscores the NSCDC's unwavering commitment to safeguarding critical national assets.
On October 22, 2024, at approximately 7:15 am, a patrol team from the Isi-Uzo Division of the NSCDC, acting on credible intelligence from an informant, intercepted a truck loaded with stolen railway slippers along the Amkpe Ogbete Mgbuji road, Eha-Amufu. The suspects were arrested in connection with the crime, but unfortunately, the driver managed to escape custody.
The arrested suspects, Nafiu Sani (25), Isa Bakoji (24), Abdulsalam Zakari (19), and Bala Abubakar (30), are currently undergoing questioning at the NSCDC Enugu State Command Headquarters. The truck, a blue-colored DAF vehicle, was also impounded, revealing hundreds of sliced railway lines and slippers valued at millions of naira, carefully concealed under several bags of sawdust.
According to Comdt. Cyprian Ehi Otoibhi, State Commandant, NSCDC Enugu State Command, "The protection of critical national infrastructure, such as railway lines, is a priority for the NSCDC. We will continue to work relentlessly to ensure that such criminal activities are curtailed and those responsible are brought to justice."
This recent success follows a string of similar arrests made by the NSCDC in Abuja, where five suspected vandals were apprehended at two different locations in the city center. The NSCDC's dedication to combating vandalism and sabotage of public infrastructure is unwavering, and this latest operation serves as a testament to their commitment.
The NSCDC urges members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities around public assets. Investigations are ongoing, and efforts are being made to apprehend the escaped driver. The arrested individuals will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
Comdt. Otoibhi commended the swift action of the patrol team and reaffirmed the Corps' dedication to combating all forms of vandalism and sabotage of public infrastructure. He also appealed to the public to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and actionable information that will aid in the fight against vandalism and other crimes.
