"CIS Leaders Unite: Moscow Summit Focuses on Strategic Partnerships and Regional Cooperation"

Russian President Vladimir Putin welcomed leaders from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) to Moscow, emphasizing Russia's commitment to strengthening cooperation with its strategic partners. The CIS, formed after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, aims to promote economic, political, and military collaboration among its member states.

Putin stressed that interaction within the CIS framework is a top priority for Russia's foreign policy. This assertion underscores the significance of regional cooperation, particularly in the face of global challenges. The summit provides a platform for member states to discuss pressing issues, including trade, security, and economic development.

During his speech, Putin highlighted the importance of close foreign policy coordination among CIS countries to address common challenges and promote shared interests ¹. He also noted that humanitarian relations within the CIS continue to develop dynamically, with a deepening scientific partnership that fosters innovation and cooperation.

The Russian President emphasized the region's economic resilience, citing a 4.7% increase in the total GDP of CIS countries and an 11.2% rise in fixed capital formation in the first half of 2024. Putin also expressed his commitment to strengthening the Commonwealth's position in world affairs through cooperation with BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa).

Furthermore, Putin identified the fight against terrorism, extremism, and crime as a key area of joint work for CIS countries, ensuring regional security and stability.

The CIS summit in Moscow brings together leaders from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. The gathering provides an opportunity for these nations to reaffirm their commitment to regional cooperation and address shared challenges.

As the CIS leaders' summit continues, observers will be watching for significant announcements and agreements that may shape the future of regional cooperation. With Russia at the helm, the CIS is poised to play a vital role in promoting stability and economic growth in the Eurasian region.
