Enugu North LG Cracks Down on Traffic Gridlock: Task Force Established to Restore Order

In a bold move to tackle the perennial traffic congestion plaguing major roads in Enugu North Local Government Area, the council has joined forces with security agencies and stakeholders to combat the menace. The affected areas include Holy Ghost, Ogbete, Chris Chemist, Old Park, and New Market, notorious for their gridlocks and roadside trading.

Chairman of the Local Government Area, Dr. Ibenaku Onoh, announced the establishment of a task force comprising security agencies and stakeholders to address the issue. The task force will sensitize street traders and transporters, giving them notice to relocate to designated markets or organize their operations to avoid obstruction.

Dr. Onoh emphasized the need for collective effort to achieve desired results, commending the state government's ultra-modern bus terminal project under Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah. Once completed, the terminal is expected to permanently alleviate the gridlock, particularly along Holy Ghost and Chris Chemist axis.

The chairman also urged transport unions, particularly the Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), to cooperate with the government in establishing orderliness among their members. Incessant parking along roads for loading purposes is a major cause of congestion, and Dr. Onoh stressed the need to establish orderliness while awaiting the bus terminal's completion.

The maiden security meeting, chaired by Dr. Onoh, was well-attended, with top officials from various security agencies and stakeholders present. These included five Divisional Police Officers, the Head of the Department of State Services (DSS), representatives from the Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS), and heads of all markets in the local government council. Representatives from the Ministry of Transport and top officials of the local government council were also in attendance.

This collaborative effort demonstrates the council's commitment to tackling the traffic congestion and restoring order in the affected areas. With the task force set to begin its work soon, residents and commuters can expect significant improvements in the coming weeks.

Dr. Onoh expressed optimism about the success of the initiative, stating that "with the cooperation of all stakeholders, we can restore sanity to our roads and make life easier for our people." He urged residents to support the efforts of the task force and report any incidents of obstruction or disorderly conduct.

As Enugu North LG cracks down on traffic gridlock, the state government's ultra-modern bus terminal project is expected to complement the council's efforts. The terminal, once completed, will provide a permanent solution to the gridlock, enhancing the state's infrastructure and promoting economic growth.

The people of Enugu North LG await the positive impact of this initiative, hoping for a smoother, more efficient commute. With the council's determination and collaborative effort, a brighter, more orderly future beckons for the area.
