"Enugu State Government Cracks Down on Kidnappers' Dens, Demolishes Another Building"

In its relentless fight against kidnapping, the Enugu State government has demolished another building used as a kidnappers' den in Amaebo Owelli Autonomous Community, Awgu Local Government Area. This move follows the government's warning to property owners that any building linked to such activities will be brought down.

The demolished mansion was the site of a horrific kidnapping incident in May 2024, where a victim was held captive and forced to plead for ransom. The government's state-of-the-art security system tracked the building, rescued the victim, and apprehended most of the criminals.

Executive Chairman Uche Anya explained that the recovery of several AK-47 rifles, semi-automatic weapons, and ammunition was made possible through the efforts of security agencies. Notably, the kingpin of the gang was linked to another kidnapping incident in Ogbeke Nike.

The Enugu State government emphasized that property owners will be held responsible for any criminal activities occurring on their premises. "We will take down the property in line with the law," Chairman Anya stated. "We do not want to profit from their criminality."

The government has taken over the demolished property and plans to construct a clinic or community benefit project in its place.

The kidnapping gang has been linked to Simon Ekpa, a self-acclaimed Biafra freedom fighter and leader of the Biafra RevolutionalGovernment in Exile (BRGIE). Ekpa's history and indigenous state in Nigeria remain unclear, with Ebonyi State unable to verify his family or relatives.

This raises concerns about potential external influences aimed at destabilizing the peace in the South-East region.

The Enugu State government's actions demonstrate its commitment to combating kidnapping and ensuring public safety. Property owners are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
