Enugu State Revenue Service Wins Double Award for Digital Innovation
The Enugu State Board of Internal Generated Revenue Service (ESIRS) has made history by bagging a double award at the Nigeria Bureau of Public Service Reform Conference 2024 in Abuja. The awards recognize ESIRS's groundbreaking innovations, reforms, and digitalization of tax policies, implementation, and practices, which have significantly improved the state's internal generated revenue and plugged leakages.
The Director General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR), Mr. Dasuki Arabi, presented the awards to ESIRS Chairman, Mr. Ekene Nnamani, at the NICON LUXURY hotel in Abuja. Arabi praised ESIRS for exceeding expectations in adapting ICT in revenue generation, with a performance rating of 70%. This achievement earned ESIRS the "Best State Revenue Agency in ICT Integration" award.
Additionally, Nnamani was honored as the "Trailblazer of State Revenue in Nigeria" for his exceptional leadership in driving revenue growth. The awards are a testament to the success of ESIRS's digitalization efforts, which have transformed the state's revenue collection processes.
According to Nnamani, the digitalization of revenue collection in Enugu State is a result of Governor Barr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah's disruptive agenda and policies. The governor's support and vision have enabled ESIRS to achieve remarkable success. "The policies of the governor and support to the agency made this possible," Nnamani said.
The BPSR introduced the institutional Self-Assessment Tool (SAT) to transform the Nigerian Public Service. ESIRS's outstanding performance demonstrates the effectiveness of this tool. With this achievement, ESIRS is poised to continue driving revenue growth and excellence in public service.
Enugu State has introduced a consolidated tax regime and e-ticketing to eliminate multiple taxations and boost internal revenue. This move aligns with Governor Mbah's target of raising the state's GDP from $4.4 billion to $30 billion.
In his acceptance speech, Nnamani thanked the BPSR for conducting the assessment and recognizing ESIRS's efforts. "I would like to thank your team for finding us worthy and for championing the reforms that are currently going on in the public service," he said.
The event was attended by stakeholders, captains of industries, and prominent individuals from government and private sectors.
The double award win is a significant milestone for Enugu State and a testament to the effectiveness of Governor Mbah's policies. As ESIRS continues to drive innovation and excellence, the state is poised for continued growth and development.
