Federal Government Seeks New Permanent Secretaries: Opportunities for Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu and More
The Federal Government has begun the process of appointing new Permanent Secretaries to fill vacancies in eight states, including Abia, Bayelsa, Ebonyi, Enugu, Gombe, Kaduna, Kebbi, and Rivers. This move aims to uphold the Federal Character principle, ensuring representation from various states .
A memo signed by the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, on October 7, 2024, outlined the eligibility criteria for applicants. To be considered, candidates must:
- Meet the Position Requirement:'
- Have attained the position of substantive Director on Salary Grade Level 17 on or before January 1, 2022.
- Be a State Indigenous : Be an indigene of one of the listed states.
- Have Updated Records:Have updated their records on the IPPIS verification portal.
Have Sufficient Service Time:Have at least one year of service by November 18, 2024 .
The memo also emphasized that officials undergoing disciplinary procedures are excluded from the exercise. The Permanent Secretaries are required to confirm that applicants are not under any disciplinary procedures.
This development presents opportunities for qualified directors in the mainstream federal civil service from the specified states. The appointment process, approved by President Bola Tinubu, is expected to be completed by November 18, 2024.
