Fear and panic have gripped residents of Ahoro-Esinele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State following a shocking attack by armed gunmen who invaded a secondary school and abducted its principal alongside several students.
The terrifying incident occurred on Friday morning between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. at Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele, throwing the quiet community into confusion and fear.
According to the Oyo State Police Command, the attackers stormed the school premises during school hours and forcefully whisked away the principal, identified as Mrs. Rachael Alamu, along with an unspecified number of students whose identities and exact figures are yet to be officially confirmed.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed the development, describing the attack as a serious security incident that has prompted immediate police action.
Eyewitnesses and residents disclosed that the gunmen arrived heavily armed and operated for several minutes without resistance, causing panic among students, teachers, and members of the community.
During the attack, a teacher was reportedly shot by the assailants. However, authorities are yet to confirm the severity of the victim’s injuries or whether the teacher is currently receiving medical treatment.
Sources within the community revealed that the kidnappers escaped with the school principal in her personal vehicle before fleeing into a nearby forest reserve that borders the area.
Residents lamented the slow security response, noting that the nearest police station is located far from the community, a situation they believe gave the gunmen enough time to carry out the operation and escape successfully.
The incident has sparked fresh concerns over the growing insecurity around schools and rural communities, especially in parts of the country where residents continue to complain about inadequate security presence.

Following the attack, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State reportedly ordered the immediate deployment of tactical teams and other security operatives to the area to begin rescue operations and track down the perpetrators.
Security personnel have since commenced search-and-rescue efforts in the surrounding forests, while anxious parents and community members await news about the safe return of the abducted victims.
As tension continues to rise in the community, residents are calling on the government and security agencies to strengthen protection around schools to prevent further attacks on students and educators.
