IPOB Denounces Simon Ekpa, Rejects Association with Violent Activities
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a press release distancing itself from Simon Ekpa, the self-acclaimed Prime Minister of the Biafra Government in Exile (BGIE). The IPOB statement, released on November 22, 2024, emphasizes that Simon Ekpa is not a member of IPOB and should not be associated with the organization.
According to the IPOB press release, Simon Ekpa has never been a member of IPOB, led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who is currently being detained illegally by the Nigerian Government. The IPOB statement contradicts a BBC News report that referred to Simon Ekpa as an IPOB leader.
The IPOB emphasizes that it is a peaceful global movement that seeks Biafra independence through a supervised UN referendum. In contrast, Simon Ekpa's group, the Biafra Government in Exile (BGIE), has been linked to violent activities, including kidnappings, rapes, forceful disappearances, killings, and burning of homes in the South Eastern region.
The IPOB press release also accuses Simon Ekpa of recruiting violent criminals to destabilize the South East Region in 2021. Furthermore, the statement alleges that Simon Ekpa's group has no alliance or relationship with IPOB and Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
The IPOB is calling on BBC News and Finnish Authorities to note that Simon Ekpa has no relationship with IPOB in Finland or any other unit globally. The organization emphasizes that it does not support violent agitation and should not be associated with Simon Ekpa's activities.
In conclusion, the IPOB press release reiterates that Simon Ekpa is not a member of IPOB and should not be associated with the organization. The IPOB remains committed to its peaceful struggle for Biafra independence and self-determination.
