Kano Emir's Palace Barricade: Federal Government Fingered by State Authorities

The Kano State Government has openly accused the Federal Government of orchestrating the barricade of the palace of the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, by security operatives. This unprecedented move has sparked widespread concern and condemnation from the state government and the emir himself.

On Friday, the Emir's palace was unexpectedly sealed off by police and Department of State Services (DSS) operatives, leaving many stunned and confused. The Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, expressed his surprise and dismay during a local radio interview, stating that the state government was not informed about the barricade. Bichi emphasized that Kano is a peaceful state, but a few individuals backed by Abuja are working to destabilize it.

"We were really surprised waking up to this development with police sealing off the entrance to the palace of Kano Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II," Bichi said. "What surprises us the most is that Kano is peaceful, but it's just a few people that have the backing of Abuja that don't want Kano to be peaceful. The emir was to escort his district head of Bichi, Wamban Kano, pray with him there and then come back. We were all invited, and then we woke up to this. We asked the reason, and they told us it was an order given to them from above. Who is there above? It's the Federal Government."

Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, who later led the Friday congregational prayer at the Kano Central Mosque outside the palace, urged the people of Kano to remain calm and avoid violence. He warned against falling into the traps of those seeking to destroy the state's peace, emphasizing the importance of unity and stability. "I warned you against falling into the traps of Kano enemies who want to see Kano on fire, they always want to see killings, destruction of public properties and maiming of innocent lives," the 16th Emir, Sanusi stated.

Sources close to the palace suggest that the barricade may be linked to the Emir's planned escort of the newly appointed District Head of Bichi, Munir Sanusi, to assume his official post. Others speculate that it could be related to the Emir's scheduled meeting with economists to discuss proposed tax reform bills.

The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to peace and stability, vowing not to let external forces disrupt the state's harmony. Bichi stated, "We in Kano have resolved to stay in peace; peace will reign, and nobody will come to Kano and destabilize that." The state government has also maintained that the Emir's appointment of the district head stands, and they will support him in carrying out his duties.

This incident highlights growing tensions between the Kano State Government and the Federal Government. The accusations made by the state government raise questions about the federal government's involvement in state affairs and its potential motives. As the situation unfolds, it remains crucial for both parties to prioritize peace, stability and the well-being of the people of Kano.

The people of Kano remain concerned about the implications of this incident, calling for calm and restraint. The emir's call for peace and unity has resonated with the community, emphasizing the need for collective action to protect the state's stability.

In conclusion, the barricade of the Kano Emir's palace has sparked widespread concern, and the accusations against the Federal Government have raised questions about its involvement in state affairs. As tensions rise, it is essential for all parties to prioritize peace and stability, ensuring the well-being of the people of Kano.
