Midnight Horror in Kwara: Bandits Abduct Couple in Fresh Lafiagi Attack, Residents Gripped by Fear

Residents of Lafiagi in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State have once again been thrown into fear and uncertainty following a fresh bandit attack that resulted in the abduction of a married couple during a midnight raid.

The latest incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, barely 48 hours after armed bandits invaded the Sodo/Sawmill area of the same community, where a resident was killed and several others were reportedly whisked away by the attackers.

According to local sources, the gunmen stormed the community under the cover of darkness and carried out the operation within a short period, leaving residents terrified by the sound of sporadic gunfire that echoed through the area.

A resident who spoke on condition of anonymity due to security concerns disclosed that the victims, identified as a Fulani husband and wife, were taken away by the heavily armed assailants to an unknown destination.

"Two persons, a Fulani couple, were kidnapped by gunmen early this morning. It was a midnight attack that lasted for a short while, but we heard gunshots and everyone was scared. People stayed indoors because nobody knew what could happen next," the source said.

Another resident revealed that preliminary information suggests the abducted husband may have family ties to a Fulani man who was reportedly targeted during the previous attack that occurred on Monday.

"Yes, the husband and wife were taken away by the attackers. From what we gathered, the husband is somehow related to the Fulani man who was the target during the last attack. The gunmen arrived around midnight, carried out their operation and disappeared. We cannot say exactly why they came or why the couple was targeted," the resident explained.

The latest abduction has heightened concerns among residents who say they are increasingly worried about the deteriorating security situation in the area. Many community members have reportedly expressed frustration over the recurring attacks, calling on security agencies and government authorities to take urgent action to prevent further violence.

The incident adds to a growing list of security challenges confronting communities in Edu Local Government Area, where cases of kidnapping, armed attacks and violent crimes have continued to raise alarm among residents.

As of the time of filing this report, the abducted couple's whereabouts remain unknown, while family members and community leaders anxiously await any information that could lead to their safe return.

Efforts to obtain an official reaction from the Kwara State Police Command were unsuccessful. The Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, could not immediately confirm the incident when contacted.

The fresh attack has once again renewed calls for strengthened security operations across vulnerable communities in Kwara State, as residents fear that the growing wave of kidnappings could further threaten lives, livelihoods and peace in the region.

Security agencies are yet to release an official statement regarding the latest abduction.
