"Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Dismisses Simon Ekpa's $57.5 Billion Loan Claim as 'Outrageous' and 'False'"
Renowned economist and former Nigerian Finance Minister, Professor Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has rejected claims made by Finland-based Biafra agitator, Simon Ekpa, that his "Biafran Government In Exile" has secured a $57.5 billion loan from the IMF and World Bank to fund his proposed December 2nd declaration of Biafra .
Ekpa, who has been declared wanted by the Nigerian government for allegedly sponsoring terrorism and criminal activities, recently ordered a two-day sit-at-home on October 20-21, claiming he would unveil and launch missiles, tanks, and other heavy weapons. However, no evidence of these weapons was seen, leaving many to question his credibility.
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has repeatedly denied Ekpa as a member, distancing themselves from his actions. Okonjo-Iweala joined the chorus of critics, stating on X, "I know no sensible person will believe what is contained in the outrageous tweet below... In these troubled times, it is essential to underscore that the statement is false. I enjoin all those seeking to misuse my name to desist!" ¹
Ekpa's actions have sparked concern among Southeasterners, who are increasingly questioning his motives and authenticity. With many followers driven by emotion and passion for the restoration of Biafra, some worry that Ekpa's false claims may lead to further instability in the region.
In a related development, Ekpa declared a month-long lockdown in the South-East, which was met with mixed reactions. While some saw it as a welcome development, others criticized it as a ploy to destabilize the region ¹.
As tensions continue to rise, one thing is clear: Simon Ekpa's claims and actions are under intense scrutiny, and experts like Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala are calling for caution and critical thinking.
