In a bid to boost operational efficiency and professionalism, the Eastern Naval Command of the Nigerian Navy embarked on a three-day shooting drill at the police shooting range in Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River. The exercise, which kicked off on Tuesday, brought together participants from all units of the command.

Rear Admiral Saheed Akinwande, Flag Officer Commanding, ENC, emphasized the importance of the drill in preparing officers for operational exigencies, particularly in the face of internal security challenges plaguing the nation. "The country is facing a lot of internal security challenges, and the armed forces, particularly the Navy, have a role to play," he said.

Represented by Rear Admiral Ebiobowei Zipele, Chief of Staff, ENC, Akinwande expressed hope that the exercise would enhance the operational skills of personnel, contributing to the overall security of Cross River and the country. He noted that the Navy is working tirelessly to ensure security is guaranteed in Cross River and the country at large.

The exercise aims to enhance weapon handling skills, reduce fire accidents, boost operational efficiency, and foster discipline among personnel. By improving proficiency in handling firearms, the Navy seeks to minimize incidents related to improper weapon handling.

Commodore Rotimi Oderemi, Commander of the Nigerian Navy Ship Victory (NNS Victory), highlighted the significance of the drill. "This is part of our training package, and the objective is to enhance professionalism and reduce incidents from weapon handling. It also aims to enhance their firing skills," he said.

The shooting drill is set to become a quarterly fixture, ensuring continuous improvement and readiness. Oderemi stated, "We hope to have it every quarter. This exercise, which drew men from all the units of the ENC, will continue for the next three days."
