Obaseki Unfazed by EFCC Arrest Threat: "I'll Use Custody Time for Research

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has made a bold declaration, stating he's not afraid or worried about potential arrest or investigation into his administration by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Obaseki's tenure ends on November 14, 2024, and he claims to be aware of multiple petitions filed against him, which he attributes to vendetta-driven individuals.

Speaking at the EdoBEST National Results-Sharing Session in Abuja, Obaseki expressed confidence in his integrity, stating he'd utilize any time spent in EFCC custody to conduct research. He believes his opponents are motivated by envy, seeking to tarnish his remarkable eight-year legacy in the South-South state.

The governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has accused Obaseki's administration of taking unscrupulous loans from banks and other financial institutions . Okpebholo also alleged the looting of government funds and public properties, including vehicles, furniture, and rice, by officials of the outgoing administration.

Obaseki remains unfazed, willing to turn himself in if summoned, as he has nothing to hide. "I hear that the EFCC will pick me next week after my tenure. Wherever they keep me, I'll spend time doing research," he said.

Allegations Against Obaseki's Administration:

- _Unscrupulous Loans_: Accusations of taking loans from banks and other financial institutions without proper authorization.

- _Looting of Government Funds_: Allegations of officials embezzling public funds.

- _Looting of Public Properties_: Accusations of officials stealing government properties, including vehicles, furniture, and rice.

Despite these allegations, Obaseki remains confident in his achievements, stating, "There are many things we have done that can be described as legacy projects. I believe in Edo State; one of the things that will last for a very long time to come is the fact that we were able to focus on Edo people and the things that matter to them."

As Obaseki prepares to leave office, the EFCC's planned investigation and potential arrest hang  in the balance. Will Obaseki's confidence be vindicated, or will the allegations against his administration prove substantial? Only time will tell.
