Terror Attack: Three Killed  as Clergyman, Two Others Fall Victim on Return from Burial Visit

Udugulu, Nasarawa State — November 10, 2025

It was a black Monday for the people of Udugulu community in Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, as tragedy struck when three men were brutally murdered by suspected terrorists while returning from a burial visit.

The victims, identified as Reverend Father Taylor Gulu, Mr. Andy Zona, and Mr. Dele Zhegule, were reportedly ambushed at about 11:45 a.m. along the Udugulu–Agyaragu road, a route that has become increasingly unsafe in recent months due to repeated attacks by armed men.

According to eyewitnesses, the clergyman and his companions had attended a burial ceremony in a neighboring community and were on their way back home when their vehicle was intercepted by the assailants. The gunmen, said to have emerged suddenly from a nearby bush, opened fire without provocation, killing all three occupants on the spot before fleeing the scene.

Residents of the area described the incident as “heartbreaking and horrifying,” lamenting the growing insecurity that has continued to plague rural communities in Nasarawa State.

“Father Taylor was a peace-loving man who devoted his life to serving God and humanity. It’s painful that his life ended in such a cruel way,” a tearful parishioner told reporters.

The attack has thrown Udugulu community and its environs into mourning, with many residents expressing fear over their safety. Local churches in Obi LGA have reportedly suspended evening activities in solidarity and mourning for the slain priest and his companions.

Confirming the incident, a senior police officer from the Nasarawa State Police Command, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said a team of operatives has been dispatched to the area to recover the bodies and begin investigations.

“We are aware of the attack and have deployed our men to the scene. Efforts are ongoing to track down the perpetrators and ensure they face justice,” the officer said.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Obi Local Government Area, Mr. Yusuf Akila, condemned the killings and called on security agencies to intensify surveillance across the region.

“This is a dark day for our people. We urge the state and federal governments to act fast and stop this bloodshed. Our communities can no longer sleep in peace,” he said.

For the people of Udugulu, Monday, November 10, 2025, will forever be remembered as a day when their peace was shattered, and their beloved sons were taken away in cold blood.
