TERROR IN PATIGI: Kidnappers Demand ₦50 Million Ransom for Final-Year University Student, Brother as Students Cry Out for Help
June 15, 2026
Fear and anxiety have gripped the Ahman Pategi University community in Kwara State after terrorists reportedly demanded a staggering ₦50 million ransom for the release of a final-year student and his brother who were abducted and taken into captivity.
The victim, identified as Gana Usman, a final-year student in the Department of English at Ahman Pategi University, Patigi, was kidnapped alongside his brother in a disturbing incident that has sparked outrage and renewed concerns over the worsening insecurity across Nigeria.
According to information gathered by GLINTNEWS, the abductors have established contact with the victims' family and issued a demand of Fifty Million Naira (₦50,000,000) as a condition for their release.
The development has thrown the victims' family into emotional and financial distress, as they are reportedly unable to raise such an enormous amount.
In response to the situation, a student association, the National Association of Patigi English Students (NAPES), issued a passionate appeal to Nigerians, philanthropists, community leaders, and other stakeholders to come to the family's aid.
In a statement dated June 15, 2026, and signed by its Executive President, Yakubu Jamilat Talatu, the association described the abduction as heartbreaking and called for urgent intervention to save the lives of the victims.
"NAPES NHQs hereby appeals to the general public, well-meaning individuals, philanthropists, community leaders, and stakeholders to assist in raising funds for the release of our fellow student, Gana Usman, a final-year student of the Department of English, Ahman Pategi University, Patigi," the statement read.
The association lamented that the incident has deeply shaken the student community, noting that students cannot afford to remain silent while one of their colleagues battles for survival in the hands of armed kidnappers.
"This unfortunate situation has placed an enormous burden on the family, who are unable to meet the ransom demand on their own. As a student community, we cannot remain silent while one of our own faces this difficult ordeal," the statement added.
The students further emphasized that every contribution, regardless of the amount, could make a significant difference in efforts to secure the victims' freedom.
They appealed to compassionate Nigerians nationwide to support what they described as a humanitarian cause and an opportunity to save lives.
The abduction has once again highlighted the growing menace of kidnapping and banditry in several parts of Nigeria, where students, farmers, travelers, and ordinary citizens continue to live under the constant threat of criminal attacks.
Security experts have repeatedly warned that educational institutions and rural communities are becoming increasingly vulnerable, raising concerns about the safety of students and academic environments across the country.
As efforts continue to secure the release of Gana Usman and his brother, members of the university community, friends, relatives, and concerned citizens have continued to pray for their safe return.
The association concluded its appeal with prayers for divine intervention, saying, "May Almighty Allah reward every donor abundantly and grant the victims a safe return to their loved ones."
At the time of filing this report, security authorities had not publicly issued an official statement regarding the abduction or ongoing rescue efforts.
The incident has once again reignited calls for stronger security measures and urgent government action to curb the persistent wave of kidnappings that continues to threaten lives and disrupt communities across Nigeria.
