TERRORISTS INTESIFY ATTACK IN NORTH WEST DESPITE MILITARY CLAIMED OPERATIONS
Sokoto, 20th November 2025
In the early hours of Thursday, November 20, 2025, residents of Gurawa community in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State were thrown into mourning and panic after a group of armed terrorists launched a deadly attack that left two people dead, eleven kidnapped, and four others severely injured.
According to local sources, the incident occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m., when most villagers were asleep. Armed men reportedly stormed the community in large numbers, firing sporadically and causing chaos that forced residents to flee into nearby bushes in a desperate attempt to escape the onslaught.
Eyewitness accounts revealed that the attackers arrived on motorcycles and operated for more than an hour without any immediate resistance. “They came in from the eastern side of the village, shooting into the air and breaking into houses,” a distraught resident recounted. “They killed two people on the spot, injured four people, and took away eleven of our people, including a woman.”
The four injured victims were rushed to a nearby medical facility, where they are currently receiving treatment. Health workers described their condition as “serious but stable,” adding that urgent medical attention was necessary to manage gunshot wounds and trauma.
As dawn broke, the once peaceful community was left in ruins—homes destroyed, valuables carted away, and families torn apart. Residents described the attack as one of the most terrifying in recent months, despite ongoing military operations in the region aimed at curbing the activities of bandits and terrorist groups.
Local authorities in Sabon Birni LGA have condemned the attack, calling it “a tragic reminder of the escalating insecurity threatening rural communities.” Efforts are reportedly underway to track the attackers and rescue the kidnapped victims, though no official statement has been released by the Sokoto State Police Command as of the time of this report.
