Terrorists Strike Again In Kwara: Two Security Operatives Killed In Patigi, Community Elders Abducted In Fresh Oreke Attack
17th November 20225
Tension has again gripped communities in Kwara North following a deadly terrorist raid in Patigi Local Government Area and a separate abduction of two respected elders in Oreke, Ifelodun LGA, barely days after residents were urged to return home.
Glintnews gathered that heavily armed terrorists, locally referred to as bandits, stormed Rogun Village in Kpada District late Sunday night and launched an assault on the local police outpost.
According to a security source, the attackers opened fire immediately upon arrival, engaging officers in a fierce gun duel that lasted several minutes. By the time calm returned, two security operatives—a police constabulary and a vigilante member—had been gunned down.
“The brutal attack happened in the late hours of yesterday. They targeted the Rogun police post and killed two gallant officers,” the source told Glintnews.
Residents said panic spread rapidly as gunshots echoed across the village, forcing families to flee into nearby bushes under the cover of darkness. Security personnel have since been deployed to the area to restore calm, though authorities are yet to issue an official statement.
Sources in the district insist that establishing a military base in Koro — a key route linking Kpada to Isanlu in neighbouring Kogi State, where terrorist attacks are rampant — is urgently needed to stem the growing violence.
But even as Patigi reels from the attack, terror struck again in Oreke community, already battered by months of relentless assaults.
Glintnews can confirm that two revered community leaders — Chief Yahaya Majeobaje Owolabi (Majekobaje of Oreke) and the Babaloja of Oreke, Yahaya Adeniyi — were abducted on Friday. They were reportedly on their way to Baba-nla for a security meeting with the local monarch when terrorists intercepted them.
The incident has plunged the community into fresh fear, forcing many residents to flee once more, despite earlier assurances of safety from Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
A handful of residents who recently returned after the governor’s appeal expressed shock and disappointment at the audacity of the kidnappers.
“Governor AbdulRahman, chairman Femi Yusuf, you asked us to return after the attacks. We came back, but as you can see, the town is empty,” a resident lamented in a video obtained by Glintnews.
“Most elders only returned on Tuesday, and we were planning security strategies. But now our leaders have been kidnapped on their way to Baba-nla.”
Community members insist that despite government claims of increased security operations, Oreke remains dangerously exposed.
“They say terrorists were bombed, but we see nothing. Our police division has no officers. Soldiers only pass through; they don’t go into the bush where these criminals hide,” another resident said.
Oreke has endured months of persistent kidnappings, with more than 20 residents abducted and forced to pay ransom for their release. Hunters who attempted to search for the recently kidnapped chiefs were reportedly killed.
“We cannot go to our farms. We cannot sleep in our houses. Now our highest-ranking chiefs — the Babaloja and Majekobaje — have been taken,” a distraught community member told Glintnews.
As residents flee yet again, the renewed wave of attacks has amplified calls for urgent government intervention before more communities fall under siege.
