_Tinubu Under Fire: Senator Ndume Urges President to Axe Harmful Advisors Amid Soaring Inflation and Economic Hardship_
Nigerian Senator Ali Ndume has sounded the alarm on the devastating impact of hyperinflation and harmful policies under President Bola Tinubu's administration, urging the president to take drastic measures to address the suffering of Nigerians. Ndume, representing Borno South senatorial district, warns that certain individuals within the government are pushing detrimental policies, exacerbating the economic crisis instead of working to stabilize the exchange rate and control inflation.
The senator's statement comes as Nigerians grapple with skyrocketing prices of essential goods and services, including fuel, food, and transportation. Ndume stresses that many families are struggling to meet their daily needs, with some unable to afford even basic necessities. He attributes this hardship to the wrong advice given by some of Tinubu's advisors, who allegedly do not have the best interests of Nigerians at heart.
Nigeria's inflation rate has surged to 28.20% as of November 2023, with predictions suggesting it may reach 30% by the end of the quarter. The removal of fuel subsidies has led to a 300% increase in transport costs, with petrol prices averaging N660 per liter, up from N195 before May 29, 2023. This has resulted in widespread economic hardship, with many Nigerians struggling to cope with rising prices.
The situation is further compounded by growing insecurity, especially in the northeast, northwest, and north-central regions, which has worsened food security. Ndume emphasized that farmers are unable to move their products due to high transportation costs, leading to expensive food items.
Ndume's appeal to President Tinubu is clear: "Resist these bad people who want to pitch the people against his administration." He urges the president to address these issues urgently, emphasizing that Nigerians' patience is wearing thin.
"I believe President Tinubu means well for Nigeria and Nigerians. I know this because I know what he stands for. But some of his advisers who don’t mean well to the people of this country give him wrong advice," Ndume stated. "I’m begging him to do something before it is too late. It is not good to test the patience of Nigerians, and that’s exactly what these bad advisers are doing."
As Nigeria teeters on the brink of economic crisis, Tinubu's administration faces mounting pressure to deliver on its promises. The president's policies, including the rollout of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses and the anti-corruption war, will shape the country's economic trajectory in 2024. With Senator Ndume's warning serving as a clarion call, will President Tinubu take decisive action to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians?
