In an official statement released by the institution and signed by the Acting Coordinator of the Centre for Information and Public Relations, Mr. Olaniyi S. Jeariogbe, LASU described the incident as a heartbreaking loss and expressed profound sadness over the student's untimely death.
According to the university, the unfortunate incident occurred on the night of Friday, May 29, 2026, when Boluwatife and some of his friends were attacked by armed robbers while off campus in the Iba area. Details surrounding the attack remain sketchy, but reports indicate that the assailants inflicted serious injuries on the young student during the robbery operation.
The university disclosed that immediately it received information about the incident, swift steps were taken to provide support and assistance to the victim. Through the Office of the Students’ Affairs Division, university authorities closely monitored the situation while maintaining constant communication with the medical team responsible for his treatment.
LASU stated that the Acting Dean of Students’ Affairs, Dr. Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, promptly escalated the matter to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, while efforts were made to ensure that the student received the necessary care and attention.
Despite the medical interventions and sustained efforts to save his life, Boluwatife eventually succumbed to his injuries, a development that has triggered an outpouring of grief across the university community.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased during this difficult period. We share in their grief and pray for strength and comfort for everyone affected by this painful loss," the university stated.
Following the student's death, representatives of the institution reportedly engaged with his family, officials of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), and relevant law enforcement agencies as part of efforts to ensure proper handling of the matter and support for the grieving family.
The university further revealed that it is working closely with security agencies to facilitate a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack. Authorities are determined to identify, apprehend, and prosecute those responsible for the crime.
"The University is actively cooperating with security agencies to ensure that the circumstances surrounding the attack are thoroughly investigated and those responsible are brought to justice," the statement noted.
