Military Operation Flushes Out Insurgents in Kebbi State Community
NIGER — In a coordinated ground and air offensive, Nigerian military forces have successfully cleared the Gulbi community in the Borgu Local Government Area of Niger. The two-day sweep resulted in the recovery of operational vehicles and a significant cache of ammunition following a brief firefight with suspected terrorists.
According to a reliable source, the joint operation took place between May 30 and May 31. Ground forces, heavily supported by the military’s air component, launched the offensive as part of a broader, ongoing campaign to deny criminal elements freedom of movement across the region.
Security personnel pushed into Gulbi after receiving high-value intelligence pointing to a concentrated insurgent presence. Informants had previously suggested the area was functioning as a critical logistical and coordination hub for regional terror networks. However, upon clearing the zone, troops found no flags or factional insignia, contradicting initial intelligence assessments regarding a permanent occupation.
The confrontation occurred as military units began their tactical withdrawal from the community. Insurgents ambushed the departing troops, triggering a swift exchange of gunfire.
During the encounter and subsequent sweep of the immediate area, security forces neutralized one insurgent and recovered his body. Troops also seized 253 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition and captured 15 motorcycles used by the militants. Several additional operational vehicles were destroyed on-site due to transport and logistical limitations.
A reliable source confirmed that four soldiers sustained minor injuries during the firefight. They were quickly evacuated from the field and are currently hospitalized in stable condition.
While the tactical layout of the insurgent camp has been dismantled, military commandos remain on high alert in the sector to prevent remnant cells from re-establishing a foothold in the border communities.
