Nigeria to Battle DRC today by 8:00Pm......
In a move that underscores his commitment to the rule of law and justice, 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has pledged to fulfill the bail conditions of human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi. Farotimi, who is embroiled in a defamation case involving Afe Babalola, was granted bail by an Ekiti Magistrate Court with stringent conditions, including a N30 million bond, two sureties, surrendering his passport, and refraining from granting media interviews.
According to Tanko Yunusa, a former spokesperson for Obi's 2023 presidential campaign, Obi's decision to offer support was motivated by his respect for the rule of law and due process. "I consulted His Excellency, Peter Obi, as the leader of the Obidient Movement. As a respecter of rule of law, due process, and order, he offered to take Dele Farotimi on the bail conditions," Yunusa stated .
Obi's gesture has been seen as a significant show of solidarity with Farotimi, who has been a vocal critic of systemic issues in Nigeria. The human rights lawyer's case has garnered widespread attention, with many Nigerians rallying around him in support. By offering to fulfill the bail conditions, Obi is not only demonstrating his commitment to justice but also highlighting the need for a fair and transparent legal system.
Yunusa also conveyed Obi's gratitude to the courts and others involved in the matter, emphasizing that his concern is for the situation to be resolved in the best interest of all parties and the legal system. "He extended his sincere appreciation to all concerned," Yunusa added .
This development is a testament to Obi's leadership and his willingness to stand up for what is right. As a proponent of the rule of law, he is setting an example for others to follow, and his actions are likely to have a positive impact on the ongoing case.
The case against Farotimi is scheduled for further hearing in January 2025, and it remains to be seen how the situation will unfold. However, with Obi's support, Farotimi can take comfort in knowing that he has a strong advocate in his corner, fighting for justice and fairness .
