ADC Launches Broad Coalition in Delta, Declares Mission to Restore Nigeria’s Lost Glory

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has unveiled a wide-ranging political coalition in Delta State, declaring a renewed national rescue mission aimed at restoring Nigeria’s dignity, unity, and economic stability. The event, held in Asaba on Saturday, drew party leaders, coalition partners, political figures, and supporters who described the move as a major step toward building a formidable political force ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at the ceremony, the ADC Chairman in Delta State, Austine Okolie, delivered a passionate address on the current state of the nation, lamenting that Nigeria had drifted far from its potential. He said the country’s economy and social systems were in a state of deep distress, warning that the continuous decline across sectors called for urgent, collective action.

Okolie described human capital development as being “in steady decline,” noting that hunger and insecurity had become daily realities for millions of citizens. He criticized the deteriorating condition of the nation’s infrastructure, pointing out that roads were collapsing, power supply remained unstable, healthcare was becoming increasingly unaffordable, education was underfunded, and unemployment continued to fuel crime and youth frustration. According to him, Nigeria’s challenges were the result of a long-standing pattern of leadership failure.

He questioned how the country arrived at its current state, insisting that the welfare of citizens—supposed to be the highest priority of governance—had been pushed aside. Despite his concerns, Okolie urged Nigerians not to lose hope, insisting that the ADC offered a credible alternative built on integrity, accountability, and purposeful leadership.

He emphasized that the party was fully committed to “restoring the soul of the nation,” and called on Deltans and Nigerians across the country to join what he described as a united front for national redemption. He said the ADC symbolized a handshake of total restoration under its renewed call: Arise and Shine Nigeria. According to him, the movement required active participation, as “we cannot achieve this by sitting on the fence.”

Okolie added that the newly formed coalition represented strength, coordination, and a shared desire to rescue Nigeria from prolonged decline. He insisted that Nigerians had begun to unite under the ADC to reclaim the nation’s image, dignity, and global standing.

Former Special Assistant on Digital and Social Media to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari and former Board Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Lauretta Onochie, also addressed the gathering. She said Nigeria remained a country worth fighting for and maintained that the ADC was more than a political party—it was a movement with a vision to rebuild a nation where leadership is responsible, institutions function effectively, and citizens live in safety.

According to Onochie, the coalition reflected a growing realization that only a united and focused political effort could bring Nigeria out of its current challenges and redirect it toward progress.

Speaking on behalf of the coalition partners, Chief Julius Akpovoka, former aspirant for the Ughelli North/Ughelli South/Udu Federal Constituency seat, declared that the coalition marked a new dawn for politics in Delta State. He said the ADC was firmly positioned to win elections in 2027, buoyed by what he described as a rapidly expanding grassroots base.

Akpovoka revealed that the coalition already commands over 200,000 registered members in the state, and expressed confidence that the number would exceed 500,000 as political mobilization intensifies. According to him, reaching this target would place the ADC in a dominant position ahead of the coming elections.

The unveiling ceremony ended with renewed calls for unity, political participation, and collective responsibility, as party leaders encouraged Nigerians to rally behind a movement they believe can restore hope and reposition the nation on the path of development and pride.
